Phase Regulation of RNA Binding Protein

نویسندگان

چکیده

Living cells utilize liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) to enable the compartmentalization of macromolecules as membrane-less organelles. RNA binding proteins with intrinsically disordered regions play a central role in biological LLPS. Although LLPS provides an enormous advantage mixture wide variety macromolecules, misregulation leads fatal diseases, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Phase state protein FUS and its regulation by nuclear import receptor karyopherinβ2 will be discussed.

Regulation of Mdm2 mRNA Stability by RNA-binding Protein RNPC1

The murine double minute-2 (Mdm2) oncoprotein is an E3 ligase and a key regulator of a variety of fundamental cellular processes [1]. Mdm2 was originally identified as being amplified on double-minute chromosomes in transformed mouse fibroblasts [2]. Soon after its discovery, Mdm2 was found to be a negative regulator of tumor suppressor p53. The importance of Mdm2 in controlling the p53 activit...

Cell cycle-dependent regulation of the RNA-binding protein Staufen1

Staufen1 (Stau1) is a ribonucleic acid (RNA)-binding protein involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Recent studies indicate that Stau1-bound messenger RNAs (mRNAs) mainly code for proteins involved in transcription and cell cycle control. Consistently, we report here that Stau1 abundance fluctuates through the cell cycle in HCT116 and U2OS cells: it is high from the...

Trans-regulation of RNA-binding protein motifs by microRNA

The wide array of vital functions that RNA performs is dependent on its ability to dynamically fold into different structures in response to intracellular and extracellular changes. RNA-binding proteins regulate much of this activity by targeting specific RNA structures or motifs. One of these structures, the 3-way RNA junction, is characteristically found in ribosomal RNA and results from the ...

Post-Transcriptional Gene Regulation by MicroRNA and RNA-Binding Protein

Recent advanced studies have demonstrated that post-transcriptional gene regulation is involved in many aspects of biological processes and in the pathogenesis of various types of disorders, such as neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. In addition to transcriptional regulation, spatially and temporally regulated gene expression is achieved by the post-transcriptional con...

RNA Binding Protein-Mediated Post-Transcriptional Gene Regulation in Medulloblastoma

Medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor in children, is a disease whose mechanisms are now beginning to be uncovered by high-throughput studies of somatic mutations, mRNA expression patterns, and epigenetic profiles of patient tumors. One emerging theme from studies that sequenced the tumor genomes of large cohorts of medulloblastoma patients is frequent mutation of RNA binding p...
